In response to concerns for employee health and safety - plus environmental preservation - the Rutgers University Facilities Environmental Services group formed the "Rutgers Facilities Green Cleaning Product Evaluation Team." The team did an extensive review of seven major manufacturers of "green" products and systems. Their aim at Rutgers was to identify and implement the most eco-friendly cleaning practices available. The criteria reviewed included: Green Seal certification, HMIS (Mazardous Material Identification System) & NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) health ratings, ingredients, bio-based content, chemical dispensing systems, training programs and product performance.
